Busy Lizzie's Favourite Ways To Bring Joy In January
Busy Lizzie @
Happy 2025 everyone! Another year has come and gone, can you believe it? Once again we’re back to January, facing a fresh start and another exciting year. I can’t wait to see what it brings (hopefully a holiday to somewhere nice and sunny). This does sadly mean the festive season has ended (boo!) and we’re left facing the cold, dark winter nights without any of the Christmas cheer.
I won’t be letting the January blues get me down though! I find this month to be quite cosy and quiet, especially after a hectic Christmas season. This year I’ve decided not to set myself any resolutions or goals (I’m just going to carry on being my fabulous self!), but instead I’m going to focus on the smaller things that bring joy to my everyday life.
I know January can be a hard month for some people, so I wanted to share some of my favourite things to do that bring a little extra happiness to my day.
Gorgeous Winter Walks
Living in God’s Own Country (or Yorkshire as everyone else knows it!) means that I’m surrounded by lots of gorgeous places to walk. As much as I hate the cold, I love getting out in the fresh air. I make sure to wrap up in plenty of warm layers and pop on my wellies to head out for a lovely winter stroll with Bob at my heels. And with a trusty Hug Rug at my front door, I never have to worry about the state of the weather as I know it will be there to stop all of the dirt getting across my floors!
I also find walks the perfect opportunity to catch up with loved ones and usually invite a friend or family member to join me. There’s nothing better than catching up over a yummy hot chocolate in the stunning Yorkshire countryside.
Baking Tasty Treats
I know after Christmas the last thing people usually want is more sweet treats, but baking is one of my favourite activities. I especially love it during the colder months and baking delicious, warm treats like fresh bread, chocolate brownies and gooey cookies that fill your house with their delicious smell, mmm my mouth is watering just thinking about it all!
And for those of you who are starting a health journey in January, you can still join in on the fun by experimenting with healthier recipes and alternatives, the joy is all in the baking! I’ll be sticking with my chocolate filled treats however…Make The Most Of The Quiet
If your family is anything like mine (big and crazy!) then your Christmas’ are probably very busy and full of joyful chaos. By the time January rolls around, everyone’s ready to hibernate for the month or is taking part in something called Dry January? I wouldn’t know anything about that of course.
January presents the perfect time however to make the most of the calm, take a moment for yourself and jump back into an activity you love. I’ve enjoyed picking my book back up again and snuggling under a cosy blanket on the sofa each evening.
See, January doesn’t have to be all that blue! There’s plenty of fun and joyful activities out there to brighten your days while embracing the quiet and cosiness of the month.
Wishing you all a wonderful start to your 2025!Busy Lizzie x
