Sending love & support to Ukraine

I’m sure we’ve all seen the horrendous scenes in Ukraine as we scroll through our social media and turn on our telly for the daily news briefings. Approximately 18 million people have been affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with at least 2 million citizens fleeing their homes as a result.

At Hug at Home, we support the causes closest to our heart. We couldn’t stand by and do nothing while more and more Ukrainians suffered, so we got to thinking about how we could help.

That’s why our design team got straight to work with creating our “Dove 1” Hug Rug, a poignant symbol of peace and love - a reminder of what’s truly important in the world. 100% of the profits made from the sales of this exclusive Hug Rug will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal for Ukraine.

Last week, we also asked our amazing workforce to give any donations if they could. Their fabulous generosity raised a total of £456.25, which has been kindly matched by our parent company, Phoenox Textiles, meaning we have given £912.50 to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal for Ukraine. Boris, as in our Prime Minister, has pledged to match all public donations to this fund, which means we will have given a grand total of £1,825 to the cause!

In addition to donations, we asked our staff for any donations of warm clothes, sturdy shoes & essential toiletries, before donating these supplies to the Huddersfield Ukrainian Club last week. Our donations were then packaged up by the fantastic team at the club and are now on their way to the Polish border where they will be handed out to fleeing Ukrainian refugees. Just look at all of those wonderful donations!

If you’d like to help, you can donate directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal for Ukraine, or you could purchase our limited edition “Dove 1” Hug Rug, where 100% of the profits will be donated to the appeal on your behalf. Either way it’ll get Boris to dig deep into his pockets!

If you’d like to donate clothes, shoes & toiletries, contact your nearest Ukrainian Club to check if they’re accepting donations, and to find out exactly what they need. You can find your nearest club via the official website for the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.

We can only hope the terror for the millions of Ukrainian refugees will come to an end soon. Now more than ever, we need to stand together for what is right: peace. But above everything, we at Hug at Home and Phoenox Textiles, are sending love, hope and support to Ukraine and everyone affected.
