Your questions answered
What is a runner rug?
A runner is a long narrow rug that is more rectangular in shape. They’re best used in hallways, kitchens, open plan spaces and in front of double doors. Runners are a great addition to the home as they protect your floors and bring warmth and comfort to a room, especially our Hug Rug runners!
How do I wash a runner rug?
Washing your runner will depend on the material it’s made from. Our Hug Rug and My Rug runners are machine washable, meaning they’re easy to clean and maintain. Simply shake excess dirt and mud from your runner and pop in the washing machine at 30ºC.
Wool runners should be regularly vacuumed to prevent a build up of dirt and debris with any spills or stains removed using a wool carpet cleaner. For jute runners, blot any excess spills or stains with a cloth before cleaning with warm water and a small amount of diluted washing up liquid.
Always make sure to check the care instructions for your runner before cleaning.
How should I place a runner rug?
A runner rug can be a stylish and practical addition to various spaces across the home. The placement of your runner rug should depend on the area you’re using it in.
Hallway
When placing a runner rug in a hallway, make sure it runs along the length of the hallway. This can help to make the space feel longer and also protects your flooring from wear and tear.
Kitchen
In the kitchen, place a runner rug in front of the sink or oven to provide soft and cosy cushioning underfoot when standing for long periods. We recommend using our Hug Rug runners in the kitchen as any spills, stains or splashes can easily be washed out in the washing machine!
Open plan spaces
In open plan spaces, a runner rug can really help to define different areas in the room, such as between the dining room and the living room.
In front of double doors
Placing a runner in front of double doors, such as patio doors or conservatory doors, can help to create an inviting and warm entrance as well as protect your floors. By choosing a runner that is wide enough to fit your doors, you can prevent mud, dirt and debris from being brought inside and tracked across floors.
How do I choose a hallway runner?
Choosing the right hallway runner will depend on the amount of traffic you get in this area. If you have low foot traffic in your hallway, then a jute runner is an ideal choice. For more high-traffic areas, choose a wool runner as they’re more durable and long-lasting.
Our Hug Rug runners are perfect for entrances and hallways as they’re dirt-trapping and machine washable, meaning your floors will stay cleaner for longer and are protected from dirt and debris.
While your choice of runner should be practical, it should also complement the aesthetics and decor of your home to create a warm and inviting space.
