Your questions answered

There’s no need to get on your hands and knees and scrub your mat with a Hug Rug! Designed to be low-maintenance and easy to clean, our Hug Rugs are machine washable, saving you the hassle of manual scrubbing.

For best results, brush or hoover any excess dirt or mud away and place your Hug Rug in a cotton pillow case. Then pop your mat on a quick cotton wash at 30ºC with the drum set at a low spin speed. We don’t recommend using biological washing detergent or fabric conditioner as this will affect the performance and colour of your mat.

To dry, leave your Hug Rug flat, on an Aga rail or outside on a washing line. If needed, Hug Rugs can be tumble dried on a cool setting for 10 minutes to plush the pile.

Doormats should be shaken or hoovered once a week to remove any loose dirt and debris. How often you should wash your doormats however depends on the amount of traffic in your home. For high traffic homes, machine wash your doormat monthly for best results. If foot traffic is lighter in your home, you can leave it a couple of months between washes.

It’s perfectly fine to wash a doormat in the washing machine if you follow guidelines to make sure both your mat and your machine are properly cleaned. Always shake any loose dirt or debris from your doormat before placing it in your machine to prevent any build up of excess dirt.

Wash your mat separately from any other laundry to prevent colours or dirt transferring to your clothes. After washing your mat, clean the filter of your washing machine and run a washing machine cleaner through it to remove any residue left behind.

Yes, it’s more than safe to put our rubber backed mats in the washing machine! The rubber backing on our mats is incredibly durable and has been bonded to the cotton tufts using an extra tough fibre membrane made from recycled plastic bottles. We have developed our rubbing backing to withstand machine washing without losing its quality and functionality.

Always make sure to wash your mats on a 30ºC setting however to prevent damage to the backing.
