My Favourite Styles of Rug
Busy Lizzie @
One thing that can quickly make a difference to a room is a rug. A rug can visually define a space, creating warmth and texture and making it even more inviting and cosy as these Autumn nights pull in.
I could preach about why everyone needs a rug in their home all day and my friends and family would argue that I am guilty of this! I can’t help it though, rugs are an absolute must-have piece of furnishing in any home, bringing warmth, comfort and style to any room, what more could you want?
When it comes to finding the right rug, there are so many styles to choose from, it can be really hard to choose just one (or two, or maybe three). But have no fear as I’ve put together a guide to my favourite styles of rugs and what’s so great about each of them. Let’s crack on, shall we?
Wool Rugs
If you’re looking for something soft and plush to sink your tootsies into, you can’t go wrong with a wool rug. They’re gorgeously thick and cosy and are the perfect snuggly addition to your living room or bedroom. There’s a wool rug for everyone as they come in so many shapes, sizes, patterns or colours (there’s lots to choose from).
For those of you that are after something that’s timeless, our traditional rug collection offers a range of designs, from tartan check through to our two-tone border rugs, you may well struggle to choose just one! Or if you’re feeling bold, our patterned rugs are ideal for making a statement and adding your own personality that your guests are sure to love.
Jute Rugs
Jute rugs have grown in popularity and it’s easy to see why. They’re trendy, stylish and better yet, eco-friendly! You know I’m all about choosing the eco-friendly option and as jute rugs are made from natural plant fibres which are hand braided, this makes them a great eco choice.
They also pretty much match any decor style or aesthetic and can be used in any room in the home, so the possibilities are almost endless! You could pop a jute runner in your hallway, a round jute rug in your living room, or for much larger spaces, large rectangular jute rugs work a treat!
Sheepskin Rugs
If you’re on the lookout for a rug to use in a smaller space that’s soft and comfy, then look no further than our sheepskin rugs! They are the ideal addition to your living room, especially when placed in front of the fireplace. Or for an extra snuggly option, keep them on the back of chairs or draped over benches. Every little helps with the nights drawing in.
Runner Rugs
Sometimes you need a narrower or longer rug to fit a smaller space and that’s where our runner rugs come in. Long hallways or narrow spaces don’t have to be left out or ignored with our runner rug range, plus it provides another excuse to go rug shopping (as if I needed one!).
These can really transform your entrance and provide your guests with a comfortable and stylish welcome, all whilst keeping those sparkling floors clean. Some of my favourite Hug at Home rugs are available in runner sizes too, such as our Borders Rug Mauve or our Fine Stripes Rug Blue/Beige.
Washable Rugs
Having animals and kids in the house (as lovely as they are) means that accidents, spills and stains are bound to happen and as such, you might be hesitant to invest in a nice rug for fear that it’ll get ruined. Don’t worry, I get it, I was in the same position at one point! However, here at Hug at Home we have the perfect solution for you - washable rugs!
Our collection of washable rugs are perfect for busy, high traffic areas of your home as they’re super easy to clean. Just pop in the washing machine at 30ºC and viola, good as new! And what’s even better about our washable rug collection is that they’re made from recycled plastic bottles yet still feel super soft and comfy, plus, they look great too!
So there you have it, my favourite rug styles. I have to admit, this was a difficult one to write as I had such a hard time narrowing down my favourite choices, this blog could have ended up being a novel!
Still not sure what rug style would work best for you? That’s where my fabulous team can help. Leanne and Carol, our friendly customer service advisors, are always available to discuss colours, shapes and sizes and can even send you a free sample so you can see and feel the product in person! Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need a helping hand.
In other rug-related news, 2 years ago I tasked Ady with the challenge to start manufacturing sustainable rugs in the UK again and I am delighted that this dream is going to become a reality! Starting in 2024, we will begin manufacturing washable, sustainable rugs in the UK - how exciting!
Now, I’m going to leave you on that high note and as I’ve had such a fun time looking at different rugs, I think it’s time to find a new one for the living room, just don’t tell Ady!
